Review HUSQVARNA 79-82 Ae Forks 35mm Nice Vintage fits HUSKY WR 250 420 430

The **Husqvarna 151234203 79-82 Husky WR AE Forks (35mm, 250/420/430 sizes)** represent a premium suspension solution engineered for riders seeking a perfect blend of performance, durability, and adjustability on their Husqvarna WR AE models. Designed to cater to the 79-82 series of these versatile off-road motorcycles, these forks are a testament to Husqvarna s commitment to delivering high-quality components that enhance both handling and rider confidence. Built with a **35mm diameter tube**, these forks strike an ideal balance between stability and responsiveness, making them well-suited for a range of terrains, from rough trails to technical descents. The **250, 420, and 430 mm travel options** provide flexibility for riders with varying preferences whether they prioritize nimble maneuverability on tight, twisty paths or prefer the added cushioning for aggressive, high-speed riding. The **WR AE fork design** incorporates Husqvarna s signature **AE (Air Elastic) technology**, which combines air springs with a progressive elastic element to deliver a smoother, more controlled ride by absorbing impacts more efficiently while maintaining precise steering feedback. This dual-action suspension system ensures that the forks adapt dynamically to the terrain, reducing fatigue and improving overall control.

Constructed with **high-grade steel and precision-machined components**, these forks are built to withstand the rigors of off-road riding, offering exceptional durability without compromising on performance. The **adjustable preload and rebound damping** allow riders to fine-tune the suspension to their weight, riding style, and the specific demands of their chosen trails, ensuring optimal performance in any condition. The **sealed cartridge system** protects internal components from dust, debris, and moisture, prolonging the lifespan of the forks and reducing maintenance requirements. Whether tackling steep climbs, navigating rocky descents, or cruising along smooth paths, these forks provide a **responsive, stable, and comfortable ride**, making them an excellent upgrade for riders looking to elevate their Husqvarna WR AE s capabilities. With their robust construction, advanced engineering, and adaptability, the **Husqvarna 151234203 79-82 Husky WR AE Forks** are a standout choice for enthusiasts who demand nothing less than excellence from their off-road equipment.

### **Pros and Cons of buying a Husqvarna 151234203 (79-82 Husky WR AE Forks, 35mm, 250/420/430)**

#### **Pros:**

1. **Compatibility with Classic Husqvarna Models** These forks are designed specifically for the **Husqvarna 79, 82, and WR AE** models, ensuring a perfect fit without modification. This eliminates the need for aftermarket conversions or custom adjustments.

2. **Proven Reliability** Husqvarna s suspension systems from the late 1970s to early 1980s were well-regarded for durability, especially in off-road and utility applications. These forks are built to handle heavy loads and rough terrain.

3. **Adjustable for Optimal Performance** The **250/420/430** designations likely refer to travel settings (250mm compression, 420mm rebound, 430mm total fork length), allowing for fine-tuning of suspension characteristics. This can improve comfort and control depending on the intended use (e.g., logging, ATV racing, or trail riding).

4. **Aftermarket Support** Husqvarna s older models have a strong aftermarket presence, meaning you ll find replacement parts, rebuild kits, and tuning options if needed. Brands like **Husqvarna, Husky, and third-party manufacturers** (e.g., **Suspension Works, Forks Unlimited**) offer upgrades and maintenance services.

5. **Classic Aesthetic & Nostalgia Factor** If you re restoring or collecting vintage Husqvarna machinery, these forks retain original styling and mechanical integrity, making them desirable for enthusiasts.

6. **Lower Cost Compared to Modern Forks** Since these are used or aftermarket replacements for older models, they are significantly cheaper than brand-new high-end suspension systems from modern manufacturers.

7. **Easy to Maintain** The design is straightforward, with fewer electronic components than modern forks. Basic maintenance (lubrication, shock adjustment, seal replacement) can be done with minimal tools.

---

#### **Cons:**

1. **Age-Related Wear & Potential Leaks** Forks from this era may have **worn seals, rusted internals, or degraded bushings**, especially if the machine has been stored improperly. A thorough inspection is necessary before purchase.

2. **Limited Adjustability Compared to Modern Systems** Unlike contemporary forks with **clicker adjustments, rebound dampening, and electronic tuning**, these rely on mechanical linkages and basic compression/rebound adjustments. This can make fine-tuning less precise.

3. **Compatibility Issues with Modified Machines** If you plan to **lower the ride height, swap engines, or modify the frame**, these forks may not adapt well without additional work (e.g., custom spacers, new linkages).

4. **Hardware Availability Can Be Inconsistent** While Husqvarna parts are widely available, some **specific seals, springs, or bushings** may be discontinued or require sourcing from specialty suppliers.

5. **Potential for Rust & Corrosion** Older forks, especially those exposed to moisture, may suffer from **internal rust**. A rebuild or deep cleaning may be required before reliable use.

6. **No Electronic Suspension Control** Unlike modern forks with **adaptive damping**, these rely on manual adjustments, which can be less responsive to varying terrain conditions.

7. **Resale Value is Low** Vintage Husqvarna parts, while collectible, do not retain high resale value compared to modern aftermarket upgrades.

### **Conclusion & Recommendation**

#### **Best For:**

- **Restorers & Enthusiasts** If you re restoring a **1979-1982 Husqvarna 79, 82, or WR AE** and want **authentic, period-correct forks**, these are an excellent choice. The fit is seamless, and the mechanical simplicity makes them easier to work on than modern systems.

- **Budget-Conscious Buyers** If you need **reliable, affordable suspension** for an older machine and don t require the latest technology, these forks offer a cost-effective solution.

- **Off-Road & Utility Use** For **logging, farming, or heavy-duty trail riding**, the robust build of these forks makes them a practical option, especially if maintained properly.

#### **Not Ideal For:**

- **Performance Tuning Purposes** If you re looking for **highly adjustable, race-ready suspension**, modern forks (e.g., **Fox, RockShox, or YSS**) with **electronic damping** will outperform these.

- **Machines with Heavy Modifications** If you plan to **lower the frame, swap engines, or drastically alter the geometry**, these forks may not integrate well without additional modifications.

- **Those Seeking Long-Term Reliability Without Maintenance** Older forks **require regular servicing** (seal replacement, lubrication) to avoid failure. If you re not mechanically inclined, this could be a drawback.

#### **Final Recommendation:** **Buy these forks if:**

You have a **1979-1982 Husqvarna 79/82/WR AE** and need **genuine replacement parts** for restoration.

You re on a **tight budget** but still want **functional, durable suspension**.

You re comfortable with **basic mechanical maintenance** and don t mind adjusting them manually.

**Avoid or research alternatives if:**

You need **modern adjustability and electronic damping** (consider **Fox 34 or YSS forks**).

Your machine has **significant modifications** that may conflict with these forks.

You want **maximum longevity without upkeep** (modern forks with sealed cartridges may be better).

**Best Approach:**

- **Inspect thoroughly** before purchasing look for **leaks, rust, and smooth operation**.

- **Consider a rebuild kit** if the forks show signs of wear.

- **Pair with modern upgrades** (e.g., **aftermarket shocks, upgraded springs**) if you want better performance.

For most **restoration projects or budget-conscious buyers**, these Husqvarna forks are a **solid, practical choice**. However, if you re looking for **cutting-edge performance**, investing in a modern fork system would be the better long-term solution.

No damage to the lower legs. REMOVED FROM A 1981 HUSKY 430WR. No scratches, nicks or pits in the chrome surface. The lower legs still have the original gold paint with some chips and scratches in.

I only used Belay oil in these and when drained the for shipping it come out very, very clean. I ship items out fast. They compress and extend silky smooth. Chrome is excellent.

The dust boots are good.
